I’m Impressed!

The small frame-type embossing folders are nice, but sometimes it’s frustrating to use them because they show the edge lines which makes it necessary to cut the frame out and glue it on another piece of card stock.

Well, “fussy-cut” no more – here is a way to use your smaller embossing folders and eliminate the tell-tale lines. I’m using one of the folders from the Stampin’ Up! Fun Frames Embossing Folders pack:

First make a small alternative cutting pad just slightly larger than the size of the image, but smaller than the edges of the embossing folder. In this case, I made it 3 1/2″ x 2 5/8″, and I constructed it from 8 layers of leftover card stock, stuck together with Snail adhesive:

Next, position the embossing folder over the single layer of card stock that you want to emboss, centered and anchored with a piece of washi tape. Lay this on Tab 1 of the Big Shot platform, with no cutting pad underneath.

Next, lay the card stock pad right on top of the embossed image, taking care to keep it away from the edges. Then lay a plexiglass cutting pad on top of that, and roll it through the Big Shot. You will find that it doesn’t have the resistance that you’re used to, but it will emboss the image.

Now you can use this on your card front; sponge, stamp, or otherwise embellish your card as desired, with no need to cut out the frame:

Lost Lagoon Bloom

Thanks to Carmen at StampingAddiction.blogspot.com for this card design that she shared on Pinterest; it is a lovely card that my Stamping Hostess Group made on Saturday and they appreciated learning the embossing folder technique too.

Here are the supplies that I used to make the card; the Lost Lagoon ribbon and the Baked Brown Sugar Thick Twine are both on sale for 50% off since they are on the Retiring List ($4.48 and $1.75 while supplies last) but all other supplies will be readily available and priced as listed:
