Brayered Embossing Technique

Christmas Snow

Moana at http://www.studio824.wordpress.com taught me a neat technique to use with my Woodland embossing folder. This is the card that she brought to the demonstrator’s swap last month, and I loved it, because almost everyone else has done what I did with this folder – run the card stock through clean and then sponged ink on the trees afterwards. If you’ll notice, on Moana’s card the ink is on the background and the trees are left white – how did she do that, I asked?

Brayering Technique

First open the embossing folder and lay it flat, then brayer Smoky Slate ink on the background side, where the trees are recessed. The Sizzix logo is on that side. Then put a piece of blank Whisper White cardstock inside the folder and run it through the Big Shot.

Brayered Birches

When it comes out, the background and the lines on trees will be inked, but the birch trees will remain white. Thanks, Moana, for this great idea!

There is a gorgeous elegance to this card and what really appeals to me is that when making Christmas cards (or any cards) I adore adding bits of this and that but of course the downside is that when mailing a considerable amount of Christmas cards this causes the postal costs to escalate. I really need to try and work on one layers (or at least minimum of layers). Wishes Lynne

Good point, Lynne. Using embossing folders and glimmer paper can really dress up a card without adding too much weight.
