Retiring Stamp Idea #3 – Going Places!

Red Going Places

On pages 38-39 of the Spring Occasions catalog you can see the wonderful Going Places Suite of products, including the Going Global stamp set, all of which are retiring in a few short weeks.

While all of the examples were done with a color palette that includes some of the retiring 2014-2016 In Colors, this masculine, travel-oriented set can certainly get a different look by changing the color scheme. As I’ve said many times before, you can never go wrong with black and red together; it’s exciting, romantic and classic all at the same time!

Red Going Places Detail

There are actually two different road map papers in the Going Places Designer Series Paper Stack, and while I used one to line the envelope, the other pattern was perfect for providing a heart-to-heart street map using Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine.

Two other things to remember: the envelope liner framelits and the mini heart from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack are both on the retiring list too!

Here are the colors we used for our “Lost Without You” card:

Reminder: All stamp sets will be available at least through May 22nd, all other retiring products are available while supplies last only and some have already sold out. Some items are on sale for reduced prices. To see the entire Retiring List, check here.

Going, Going, Gone!

MainAd_retired2016_demo_Apr1816_ENG

Every year at this time Stampin’ Up! releases the “Retirement List,” those stamps, tools and accessories from the Spring Occasions and regular Catalogs that will not be returning in the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog, coming June 1st.

The good news is you still have until May 31st to get many  of the items you’d like before they’re gone, and some of them are at sale prices now!

The other news is – everything is “while supplies last only” and some things are sold out already! That’s why it’s important that you check this list now to avoid disappointment.

One thing that is always important to remember at this time of year is the retiring In Colors, so if you need anything in the 2014-2016 selections, now is the time – they sell out fast:

Retiring In Colors 14-16

Here are a couple of examples made with retiring sets and accessories; if you love these as much as I do, there’s no time to wait – May 31st will soon be here:

Sweet Spring Treats

Kathy S Bags

Before the Easter season has completely passed I wanted to show these beautiful treasures that my friend Kathy Sawyer shared with our friends in the Hostess Stamping group. She made these with the  Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies and the Decorative Label Punch (she used some paper that she had found in San Francisco’s Japantown.) They were filled with a selection of Easter candies for her friends – how sweet!

Kathy S Baskets 1

For her own kids and grandson she made these great Easter baskets from the Berry Basket Die,

Kathy S Baskets 2

decorated with the Petite Petals and Scalloped Oval Punches. Kathy is always busy making thoughtful gifts for the people she cares about!

Here are some of the products that Kathy used to make her projects. Most of these things are found in the big annual catalog, except for the Designer Series Paper used on the Berry Baskets, which is from the Spring Occasions catalog.

Hint: Did you know that you can color your pearl and rhinestone embellishments with permanent Sharpie markers to coordinate them with your paper colors? Now you know!

Honeycomb Happiness for Easter

There’s nothing in the world cuter than a little baby, and that goes for the animal world too! So when sister Kathy’s card arrived, I was charmed by the fat little chick from the Honeycomb Happiness set (free with your $50 order, but only through March 31st!)

Kathy D Chick 2

She actually sent a photo of a variation on her chick, sitting on the half shell:

Kathy D Chick 1Chick 3

while another interpretation from a demonstrator’s swap uses all of the images in the set, including the ice cream cone cut to make a jaunty hat!

Here is the whole set, 141288 in Wood Mount, and 141291 in Clear Mount.

Honeycomb Happiness Images

But like I said, if you want to catch this chick before it’s flown the coop, you’ll have to hurry! Thursday, March 31st is the last day to place a $50 order and get it for FREE. (Click on any image to go right to the online store.)

Happy Easter – Hello Spring!

Sherry Easter 16

We got a beautiful watercolored hand-stamped Easter card in the mail yesterday from Sherry made with the Happy Home set from the Spring Occasions Catalog.

Here are the colors that Sherry used on her Hello Spring! card. Click on any color swatch to see other coordinating products:

Aqua Painters filled with water are used to pick up ink and apply it to the stamped image on the watercolor paper. Less mess and greater control make Aqua Painters a great alternative to a regular brush!

Little Things Mean a Lot!

Stampy Wackers in Auburn

Me, Ann and Denise enjoying a break at Ikeda’s in Auburn, CA

I recently met with a couple of members of my Stampin’ Up! business team to catch up and share ideas (and a slice of berry pie!) It’s fun to get together with like-minded friends and sharing little gifts with simple wrappings is a favorite way that we show our appreciation for one another:

Denise quick gift wraps

Denise did a quick but cute wrapping job on these Iced Rhinestones and Glue Dots accessories packs with 1″ strips cut from the It’s My Party Designer Series Paper Stack and tied them up with Two-Tone Baker’s Twine, both from the Spring Occasions catalog.

Kathy S Tag Gifts

The ladies in the Hostess Stamping Group also enjoy making paper-crafted treats for each other when we meet for our monthly stamping sessions. These chocolate candy holders were brought last month by Kathy, made with the Love Blossoms Designer Series Paper Stack, a couple of heart punches and the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch!

Here are the products used in both of the simple gift ideas shown above. Click on any picture for more information or to order!

A Horse of a Different Color…

…or a card of a different shape – either way something unique is worth a second look!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Reggie gave me a tri-folded Valentine card this year, so I decide to re-create that shape for an appreciation card with a seaside motif:

Starfish 1

I constructed this card from a 12 x 12 piece of Pool Party card stock, cut to 11 1/2″ x 8″. I stamped the solid starfish shape from the new Picture Perfect stamp set randomly on the outside of the card with Pool Party ink before scoring at 3 3/4″ and 7 5/8″ on the Simply Scored scoring tool. I stamped one more Pool Party starfish on the middle panel inside and cut a little curved edge off the top of the front panel.

The three starfish were stamped on Very Vanilla card stock with So Saffron ink, detail stamped over in Soft Suede ink, then cut out with Paper Snips. The sentiments were stamped in Soft Suede ink on Very Vanilla card stock and attached to the front and inside of the card (inside sentiment is from the Flower Patch set.) I made my own custom sized envelope using the Envelope Punch Board and a piece of Tip Top Taupe In Color Envelope weight paper. Perfect!

What creative shapes would you like to try for card-making?

Glittery Bloomin’ Hearts

Bloomin' Heart Swap Duo

The whole point of a swap is to get different ideas of how to use the new stamps, die cutters and other accessories that are regularly released by Stampin’ Up! I showed you my “Black, White and Red” take on the Bloomin’ Hearts Thinlits Die in my last post, and here are two more examples made by demonstrators in my group:

Mary Jones Heart

Mary did a beautiful job with colors and bling-y decorations on this example. The Blushing Bride, Blackberry Bliss and Whisper White card stock are a winning combination. The sparkle is provided by Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper and Sequin Trim, and rhinestones. Anyone would love to receive this Valentine from a special friend or companion!

Susan Jones Heart

Susan went all out by die cutting the heart from the Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper! With an intricate die such as this, there are a few tips to help you cut and remove the paper from the die.

  • First, make sure that your plexiglass cutting pads are flat (older ones can tend to bow or bulge) and when running the die through the Big Shot, put it to one side or the other rather than in the middle. The rollers on the sides are slightly tighter.
  • Next, be sure to run that die back and forth through the machine several times, moving its position on the cutting plate if necessary.
  • My sister-in-law Sherry also recommends putting a piece of waxed paper between the die and the card stock before cutting to help release the die cut image.
  • Finally, we have a new tool that helps to push out the little pieces of card stock that stick in the die after cutting, called a Big Shot Die Brush:

Big Shot Die Brush

As die cutters become more intricate, we need ingenious tools like these to help work with more sophisticated designs!

Here are some of the supplies used on both of the Glittery Bloomin’ Hearts cards. You can order any of these new products just by clicking the picture and going to the online store:

Mindy Thank You

When our sister-in-law Mindy’s thank you card arrived a few days ago, I thought immediately of how much I adore black, white and red together on a card. This is a simple layout, but with the glittery embossing and tiny red heart there’s a lot to love here.

Red Heart XOXO

This inspired me to to use the same color combination on my first card using the new Stampin’ Up! Bloomin’ Love stamp set and coordinating Thinlits Dies (see them on page 16 of the Spring Occasions catalog here.)

XOXO Detail

I die cut the heart from a panel of Real Red card stock, then attached all to a white card, laying the heart back in place, but raised up slightly on foam Dimensionals. I edged the flower petals with Dazzling Details glitter glue.

Red Black White SetThanks to Mindy for sending her card and inspiring me to make a complimentary piece as a result!

Here are the supplies that I used on my XOXO Heart Card. Remember that every $50 order that you place by 3/31, you will earn a Sale-A-Bration item, absolutely free! (You will be prompted on the check-out screen to choose.)

Take Time to Smell the Roses…

…and take time to handcraft beautiful cards for significant times.

Rose Wonder Duo

These were made by a couple of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators in my group, and they both used the new Rose Garden Thinlits Dies from the Spring Occasions catalog. These are a good example of versatility because they each used a different set of flowers and leaves, color schemes, and sentiments on their cards.

Plum Rose Birthday

This birthday card in Perfect Plum and Pear Pizzazz is really a simple design, but so pretty. I love the paper doily accent!

Rose Sympathy 1

The sympathy greetings in the coordinating Rose Wonder stamp set, along with birthday, wedding and religious sentiments, makes this a very versatile stamp and die Bundle.

Rose Sympathy 2

In Melon Mambo and Pink Pirouette, this color combination is beautiful with the rose motif.

Here is a closer look at the products used to make these two cards. Click on any picture for more information, or to order (and the best part is that you can pick a free Sale-A-Bration item for every $50 purchase through 3/31.) You will be prompted on your check-out screen to pick your free product, so peruse the Spring Occasions catalog here. With stamp and die bundles at 15% off you’re sure to find something you like!
